Val Town

Val Town is an interactive serverless platform for writing and running small TypeScript and JavaScript services directly from the browser.

What the product actually does

Val Town treats serverless code as 'vals' — small, composable functions that can be triggered via HTTP, scheduled cron jobs, or email webhooks.

It abstracts infrastructure completely: state is saved using built-in SQLite, and vals can import and execute other public vals seamlessly.

How pricing works once you are inside

Free tier offers thousands of monthly executions; paid subscription unlocks higher execution timeouts, private vals, and expanded database storage.

Where it breaks down

Not built for heavy multi-tier enterprise systems or intensive continuous data processing pipelines.

What switching costs

Very low. The underlying code is standard modern TypeScript with web fetch APIs.
